Movement and Health
A recent study out of Washington University in St. Louis concludes that movement is essential for health and may also be beneficial to emotions, learning and relationships. This is why I refer to movement as one of the essential nutrients.
Obviously, moving regularly, not just going to the gym for traditional work-outs, but simply walking, even housework and yard care contributes to healthier minds and bodies.
Many people strive for those 10,000 steps every day, and that is an admirable, if somewhat lofty goal. Recent research, however, has shown that as few as 4,000 steps may contribute to reducing chronic disease and premature death.
A major part of my health coaching curriculum is to encourage folks to move more - just walking the dog, pruning your outdoor plants, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator will contribute positively to your health. Once again, mindfulness can help you be aware of your body’s need for , and reaction to increasing your movement.
Moving regularly, an essential nourishment, promotes the other essential nutrients. It can improve your efficiency and effectivness of your relationships, your career goals, and even th depth of your spirituality.
Here’s my coaching advice for today: Get up and move, every day, and do something enjoyable! If you don’t enjoy how your move, it won’t be sustainable. Have fun, move and improve your health, and your life!
Be kind to each other!
