The Art of Healing

Healing
Healing

Our bodies are programmed to heal. Virtually every organ system and tissue structure of our bodies, once injured or diseased, immediately begins to heal.

Our intrinsic inflammatory cascade, which kicks into action immediately after being assaulted, is a complex system mediated by factors designed to heal the injury and then rebuild the injured portion. Some examples:

Any broken bone will begin the rebuilding and remodeling process almost immediately, forming a healing callous within days, that can be identified on x-ray. By six weeks, most fractures are healed to the point of structural strength.

The liver is exquisitely adept at regenerating new cells, blood vessels and ductal systems.

Lungs, when injured  during the newborn period, can completely regrow by age 7.

The point is this: The key to successful medical treatment is not so much to “heal” injuries and illnesses. Rather, the goal of successful medical care is to create the scenario where the body can successfully heal itself. For example, while antibiotics will kill bacteria causing infection, the damage cause by a bacterial infection must be healed by the body itself. This is accomplished by ensuring optimal nutrition, supporting the body’s inflammatory processes, appropriate emotional and spiritual support, and by causing no further harm!

Wellness practices concentrate on promoting the intrinsic healing functions of our bodies. If successful, surgery, infection, trauma and even mental health challenges  will be overcome and we will be restored to fundamental health.
