Whats right for you?

Bioindividuality

Healthy lifestyle is not a “one size fits all” proposition. The morning jog may be very effective for one person and completely impractical for another. Low carbohydrate, high protein diets may work great for some people and completely backfire for others. Dairy products may be unhealthy for one person and necessary to good health for another. You get the picture. Health practices are a choice and very dependent on individual needs and idiosyncrasies.

This is why fad diet testimonials cannot be counted on for everyone, and may even be dangerous for some. Just because they worked for that person that looks and sounds like you on the commercials, does not in any way guarantee that the product or practice will work for you. You are a unique individual with unique needs and just as you must endeavor to find the career and relationships that are right for you, it is important to take the time and self-awareness to pick the nutrition and activity program that works best for your body. And no-one knows your body better than you. Believe it when it speaks to you!

The Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) where I trained, coined the term “Bioindiviuality” to describe this phenomenon of specific health needs for each individual person. What works best for you depends on your specific physiology and biochemistry, as well as your personality, health history and genetic makeup. For example, someone with allergies to animal proteins would find it difficult to navigate a low carbohydrate, high protein diet , as would someone with congenital kidney issues. Someone with inflammatory bowel disease might not tolerate the high fiber content of a completely plant based diet. The trick is to find out what works best for you.

For example, if you are trying to drop a few pounds in the new year, there are literally hundreds of diet programs to choose from. By the same token, there are all sort of gyms and exercise programs competing for your membership fees. Each diet and exercise program will profess to be the best one for YOU. Realistically, how could they possibly know? Only you know! It will take research, maybe even some careful trial and error. Your physician or health coach can help guide you to the program that is best for you, given your personal bioindividuality. At MONACO Wellness, we can help you understand your specific health needs, and fashion the lifestyle program that will help you meet your wellness needs.

You are not alone!
