Diet challenge: Give yourself a break!
Diets don’t work, or they all work, depending on who you ask! The truth is that any disciplined healthy eating program will help you achieve your goals as long as you stick to them. The problem is, since these programs either restrict something you like (carbs, fat, etc.), or add something you really don’t like (Kale, other veggies), in the long term they are unsustainable. Eventually you go back to your old ways and weights! So what should we do?
When choosing any diet program, whether for weight loss or just to be healthier, try following the “90/10 rule”. What does this mean? Basically to avoid the guilt and shame that comes from violating your own dietary guidelines, stick to it, as close as you can, 90% of the time, and allow yourself 10% of the time to just relax and eat whatever you want or take a break from your exercise routine. In other words, be disciplined but also don’t forget to enjoy life! That is the whole point, isn’t it? Moderation! Realism! Don’t make yourself a prisoner of your diet/exercise program. Relax, do the best you can most of the time, and you will see results, and you’ll feel better, and smile more. Let me hear from you!
