Medical Marijuana
In our continued exploration of “alternative” and natural, nontraditional modalities to prevent chronic illness or ameliorate unpleasant symptoms, we have become much more aware of medical cannabis and its many benefits.
Our wellness practice has branched out into the medical marijuana industry in our state. While seeing these patients and getting to know them, we have become powerfully aware of the medicinal benefits of this plant.
Those in our generation are historically indoctrinated by the reputation of marijuana as a “dangerous” drug, it is often difficult for folks with chronic illness to embrace the benefits of this modality. But when they do, the benefits are nothing short of astounding.
We have seen countless patients reduce or discontinue their narcotic pain medications, anti-depressants, anxiolytics and even blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes medications because the judicious use of medical marijuana results in improvement of the symptoms of these chronic conditions. This is not to mentions the benefits for people with cancer, Parkinson’s, Glaucoma and Crohn’s disease which are helped tremendously by Cannabis.
For those who are nor interested in smoking or vaping, there are many other safe alternatives for utilizing medical cannabis. There are capsules, sublingual tinctures, concentrates, edible forms and even very effective topical creams, lotions, gels and patches.
We see patients of all ages from early 20s to late 80s and even early 90s who, very often, are simply interested in good sleep and reduction of daily pain. Marijuana accomplishes this and leads to profound improvement in quality of life.
As the debate in many corners of this country ensues over the legality of this wonderful plant, even in medical circles, we encourage people dealing with chronic illness, anxiety, pain or many other troubling medical problems to consider Medical Marijuana. It can, and probably will, change their lives for the better.
