IPL Photofacial

Intense Pulsed Light therapy (IPL), is a gentle, non-invasive procedure that can be customized to your skin type—treating age spots, sun damage, rosacea, facial veins and more.

  • Rejuvenate your skin cells and get healthier looking skin by removing brown spots, age spots and sun damage.

  • Areas that can be treated are your face, your hands and your chest.

  • IPL is a gentle procedure with no post-procedure downtime.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

  • Avoid sunburns, exposure to sun or artificial tanning during the 3-4 weeks prior to treatment

  • Avoid use of Accutane (Isotretinoin, Roaccutane) within the past 6 months

  • Avoid use of photosensitive medication or herbs within 2 weeks prior to treatment (such as Isotretinoin, tetracycline, or St. John's Wort.)

  • Avoid use of Tretinoin – Retin A in the last 2 weeks

  • In the case you suffer from Herpes, initiate preventive treatment with antiviral medications (though preventive treatment does not ensure total prevention of Herpes appearance during the treatment)

  • For hair removal:

    • Do not use wax or shaving depilation machine for the 21-30 days prior to the treatment and during the entire course of treatments

    • Shave the day prior to treatment. Only shave the areas that will be treated (avoid shaving areas without hair or that are not a target for the treatment)

Post-Treatment Home Care Guidelines

  • Transient erythema/edema may appear immediately post treatment - typically resolve within 24-48 hours

  • There is a small risk of changes in the texture and pigmentation of the skin, which are also usually transient

  • In case of a more serious adverse response such as blistering, swelling, scarring or long- lasting changes in pigmentations, be sure to consult with a physician

  • Immediately after treatment and for 24 hours post, a topical emollient such as Elta MD Intense Moisturizer should be applied frequently

  • It is highly recommended to continue to moisten the skin post phototherapy treatments twice per day

  • Makeup can be applied immediately post treatment. In the case the treatment site scales or cakes, the patient should stop wearing makeup

  • Do not partake in hot baths, aerobic exercise, rough sports, massage, etc. during the next 5 days, until the skin returns to its normal condition

  • Maintain high hygienic measures of the treated area during the next 5-7 days

  • Do not tan during next 14 days (including tan beds and creams).

  • Use high factor (30–50 SPF) physical sunscreen for at least 1 month post treatment

  • Note that hormonal changes in the body, exposure to sunlight, genetics and other external /internal factors may induce reappearance of the symptoms treated (pigmentation, acne, hair growth, etc.).

  • In hair removal treatments, hair growth should be reduced and the hair in the treated area should easily pull out 2-3 weeks post treatment

  • In pigmentation and skin rejuvenation treatments, gradual clearing of the lesion may take a few months. The lesion will gradually darken (for up to 14 days) and eventually exfoliate after the treatment. The exfoliation is a desirable outcome of the treatment. Skin should not be pulled but allowed to shed naturally

  • In vascular treatments, the capillaries may change to a grayish color. One of the indications of an efficient treatment is the darkening of the capillaries about 24 hours post treatment.
